TL;DR — The Short Version

  • DoublShot is 100% offline and local-first
  • No telemetry, analytics, or tracking of any kind
  • No account required, no sign-ups, no authentication
  • Your screenshots never leave your computer
  • No connections to external servers (except for updates)
  • Open source: Verify everything yourself

Bottom line: DoublShot respects your privacy completely. We literally cannot see your data because we never collect it.

1. Information We DO NOT Collect

DoublShot does not collect, transmit, or store:

  • Your screenshots or any captured content
  • Personal information (name, email, location, etc.)
  • Usage statistics or telemetry
  • Device information or system configurations
  • IP addresses or network information
  • Any form of analytics or tracking data

DoublShot operates entirely offline. All capture, processing, and storage happens locally on your Windows machine. No cloud services, no remote servers, no data transmission.

2. How DoublShot Works

Local Processing Only

When you capture a screenshot:

  1. Your hotkey triggers the DoublShot overlay
  2. You select the region/window to capture
  3. The image is processed locally using native Windows APIs
  4. The screenshot is copied to your clipboard and/or saved to your configured folder
  5. That's it. Nothing is sent anywhere.

All image processing, compression, and file operations happen on your local machine using efficient Rust code and Windows system libraries.

3. Data Storage

What's Stored Locally

DoublShot stores minimal data on your computer:

  • Settings file: Your preferences (hotkeys, save locations, startup options)
  • Screenshots: Only if you choose to auto-save (stored in your configured folder)
  • Temporary clipboard data: Managed by Windows, cleared on reboot

These files are stored in standard Windows locations (%AppData%) and can be deleted at any time. Uninstalling DoublShot removes all stored data.

4. Network Connections

Update Checks (Optional)

The ONLY time DoublShot connects to the internet is to check for updates:

  • Checks GitHub API for the latest release version
  • Only sends: Current version number and timestamp
  • No personal data, device info, or usage statistics
  • Can be disabled in settings

Update checks are performed over HTTPS and do not include any identifying information beyond what's necessary to determine if a newer version is available.

5. Third-Party Services

DoublShot does not integrate with any third-party services.

  • No analytics platforms (Google Analytics, Mixpanel, etc.)
  • No crash reporting services
  • No advertising networks
  • No social media integrations
  • No cloud storage providers

If you choose to save screenshots to a folder synced by cloud storage (OneDrive, Dropbox, etc.), that's entirely managed by your cloud provider's software—not DoublShot.

6. Open Source Transparency

DoublShot is fully open source under the EUPL v1.2 license. Every line of code is publicly available on GitHub.

Don't trust us? Verify it yourself. You can:

  • Audit the source code
  • Monitor network traffic (you'll see there isn't any)
  • Build DoublShot from source yourself
  • Report any privacy concerns as GitHub issues

We believe in radical transparency. If we ever change our privacy practices, we'll update this policy and notify users through GitHub.

7. Children's Privacy

Since DoublShot doesn't collect any data, there's no special consideration needed for users under 13 (or any age). We don't know who's using DoublShot, and we don't want to know.

8. Your Rights

Under privacy laws like GDPR and CCPA, you have certain rights:

  • Right to access: We have no data to access
  • Right to deletion: We have no data to delete
  • Right to portability: We have no data to export
  • Right to opt-out: There's nothing to opt out of

Since DoublShot doesn't collect data, these rights are inherently protected. Your data stays on your machine, under your complete control.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy occasionally to reflect changes in DoublShot or legal requirements. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.

We promise: If we ever introduce any form of data collection (unlikely), we'll make it:

  • 100% transparent
  • Completely optional (opt-in)
  • Clearly documented
  • Announced in release notes
